The study of HSE applicants combines two annual projects.

The Survey of Undergraduate Applicants

Paper and online surveys of bachelor's degree applicants across all HSE campuses focus on their preparation for university admission, criteria for choosing universities, views on higher education, evaluation of the admissions office, and more. The study has been conducted since 2010 and is implemented in two stages: the first stage during the application period in June–July, and the second stage after the official enrolment orders are issued in August.

The Survey of Graduate Applicants

Paper and online surveys of master's degree applicants across all HSE campuses cover their preparation for admission, criteria for choosing universities, selection of educational pathways, and other related topics. This study has also been conducted since 2010 in two stages: the first stage during the application period in June–August, and the second stage after the enrolment orders are issued in August–September.
