Survey of Russian University Students on Distance Learning Conditions

A joint study by the HSE Institute of Education, the HSE Centre for Institutional Research, and the TSU Institute of Education.

Full-time and part-time students of Russian universities were surveyed. The sample covered current students enrolled in both state-funded and fee-based programmes.

The goal was to understand how students transitioned to distance learning. We analysed expectations vs reality, the process of adaptation, difficulties, satisfaction, and attitudes toward the new study format.

The online survey was conducted via three channels: a mailing through HSE University partners, a post in the Ministry of Education’s VK social media community, and targeted ads via VK.

The survey was conducted in two waves: the first in March–April, 2020, the second in May–July, 2020.
